Andrée Jeglertz confirmed Alex Greenwood is back in training and will continue to be assessed ahead of City's Barclays Women's Super League clash with Aston Villa.
Our captain has been sidelined since picking up an injury on international duty back in October, with her last appearance coming in the League Cup against Newcastle.
But while Jeglertz didn’t reveal a specific date, Greenwood’s return to ‘modified’ training provides a major boost to the City squad.
Indeed, our Head Coach said further assessments would be made after our final training session ahead of Sunday’s WSL clash with Aston Villa at the Joie Stadium.
“Alex is doing well,” Jeglertz began.
“She’s been training with the team a little bit modified this week.
“We will see how she responds. She was with the team most of the session today, let’s see how she responds on that.
“Let’s see how it is tomorrow, she’s definitely on the right way but we’ll see.”
Jeglertz was full of praise for fellow defender Rebecca Knaak, who signed a new two-year contract extension this week.
The German international has now committed her future to the Club until the summer of 2028, having signed from FC Rosengard on an 18-month deal back in January.
Our Head Coach is delighted that Knaak has agreed to stay, highlighting her positive influence on and off the pitch.
“First of all she’s a great player, but also for us she’s a leader on and off the pitch.
“She’s always doing everything very professionally and coming back from injury, it’s the first time I’ve worked with her so it’s not been that long.
“But just seeing what she’s bringing in defending ability, never losing duels, but also in possession, her quality in passing and so on.
“She’s first of all a great player but also a person and leader. I’m happy for her but also very happy for us that we managed to do that.”
