Andree Jeglertz praised the impact of Manchester City’s substitutes after they helped swing the game in a 4-2 win over Arsenal.
The City boss said the influence of players coming off the bench has been a recurring feature of his side’s performances this season, particularly in the closing stages of matches.
“If you look at all the games we’ve played so far, the substitutions and changes in the last 30 minutes have quite often turned the game around,” Jeglertz said.
“We’ve finished on a high and never dropped, that’s something to bring with us.
“You can only start with 11 players but you can do five substitutes, and the ones coming in have always affected it in a good way.”
Arsenal had led 2-1 in the WSL clash before goals from substitute Kerstin Casparij, Lauren Hemp (who had scored City’s first) and Bunny Shaw capped off a comeback victory.
Jeglertz acknowledged the frustration players can feel when they are left out of the starting line-up, but stressed the importance of making sure those on the bench understand the role they can still play.
“When a player isn’t selected in the starting XI it affects them, it doesn’t matter what I say,” he added.
“It’ll always be a bit of a confident feeling of wanting to start, which they all deserve to do.
“But it’s my job to make sure they know we still need them.”
