Andrée Jeglertz says Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw’s two dispatched penalties in our 4-1 win over London City Lionesses showcases her ‘strong personality’.

After City possessed a slender 2-1 lead over the newly promoted side at half-time, the Jamaican scored twice from the spot in the second half to seal three points.

The first saw her send Elene Lete the wrong way from 12-yards after Saki Kumagai was adjudged to have handled inside the area.

In the closing stages, Bunny was presented another opportunity from the penalty spot when she was brought down by Wassa Sangare before clinically fizzing the ball into the bottom corner.

Shaw’s brace comes in the wake of her saved spot-kick in our 5-1 win over Spurs last time out in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

But Jeglertz believes her ability to block out the noise of disappointment to deliver for City is a precious ability for his side.

“It's mentally challenging for her [Bunny] but it shows she's a strong personality and has belief in herself,” he explained.

“We believe in her by giving her the opportunity again so that's very good for her. She's now scored two and it will give her confidence.

“[Her strength in the air], it's a very good tool for us to have that we can play fantastic football but also football what the opponent gives us.

“If she is that strong winning all the duels, keeping the ball up for us then of course we should play that football.”

Also on the scoresheet against London City Lionesses was Vivianne Miedema and Laura Blinkilde Brown who both netted inside 14 minutes at the Joie Stadium following a blisteringly quick start to proceedings by the hosts.

Nikita Parris pulled a goal back for the visitors though before the break, but Jeglertz was pleased with our professionalism following the interval as we secured a fourth win in succession.

He added: “I think the start of the game was definitely great, the first 20 to 25 minutes, we were very good.

“We had some problems when they pressed us high and we didn't really find the right solution to it.

“We talked about it at half-time and the second half was under control and we created a couple of chances and we scored two goals.

“We played what the opponent was giving us and I think that's something to have with us that they can give us different spaces and we need to be able to play a different way of winning football.”
