Jens Berthel Askou outlined a high-intensity, front-foot blueprint as he was unveiled by Toulouse, targeting a dynamic, dominant and courageous side after guiding Motherwell to fourth last season.

According to L'Équipe, he addressed media at the Stadium de Toulouse, speaking in French then English. President Olivier Cloarec targeted improving on ninth and more home wins, six in Ligue 1 last season.

He meets the squad on Thursday at Île du Ramier and has spoken with captain Rasmus Nicolaisen. He sees Ligue 1 as among Europe’s most athletic, just behind the Premier League, and accepts change brings scepticism.

He acknowledged key exits, citing Emersonn’s move to Ipswich Town on Tuesday, a record sale for Toulouse. He said the club will recruit as needed and improve those already here, and wants supporters excited, perhaps intrigued, but always supportive. He also intends to promote academy talents, with the centre ranked second by the FFF behind PSG.

This will be his sixth league as a coach since 2015-2016, after spells in Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Scotland. Pre-season includes Rodez on 25 July in Montauban and Real Sociedad on 31 July in Tarbes, plus a Spain camp to be confirmed. Arriving without his own staff, he keeps a largely intact team, with Eric Allibert staying as goalkeeping coach, Jordan Galtier promoted to lead assistant alongside Mickaël Delestrez, Benoît Deplagne heading performance, Aurélien Dubearn leading video analysis, and new roles for Josselin Juncker and Jonathan Viscosi.
