Jérémy Doku announces World Cup return after birth of son

Jérémy Doku announced on Tuesday he is rejoining Belgium at the 2026 World Cup after the birth of his first child.

According to L'Équipe, the Manchester City winger left the squad after the opening match to be present for the birth of his first child. His wife, Shireen, welcomed a boy named Praise.

He thanked supporters for their love, prayers and kind messages in recent days and called his son's arrival one of God's greatest blessings. He added that it is time to return to football and represent his country on the biggest stage.

He is expected to be on the pitch against New Zealand on Saturday at 5.00.

Belgium have two points from two matches and must beat New Zealand to finish in the top two in Group G.
