Jesse Marsch has confirmed he will remain Canada head coach for a further four years beyond this summer’s home World Cup, saying in an Instagram post that he will extend his stay.
The tournament will be staged in the USA, Mexico and Canada, with Marsch’s side grouped with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Qatar and Switzerland.
Since taking charge of Canada in May 2024, he has overseen 12 wins, 12 draws and five defeats. Canada finished fourth at the 2024 Copa America, losing to Argentina in the semi-final before Uruguay won the third-place game on penalties.
Marsch expressed his enthusiasm for continuing the project, stressing belief in the team’s potential at the World Cup and beyond. He highlighted the need to strengthen the pathway from grassroots to the professional game and to inspire the next generation.
The American spent almost a year in charge of Leeds United, replacing Marcelo Bielsa in February 2022 and keeping the club in the Premier League that season. He was dismissed in early February 2023 after a poor win rate and fan dissatisfaction, and Leeds were later relegated despite Javi Gracia and Sam Allardyce taking over. Marsch has since argued Leeds could have stayed up had he remained, citing underlying numbers he says reflected a mid-table side.
