Jesse Marsch has clashed with Leeds United fans online after rejecting Sam Allardyce’s assertion that the club’s running statistics slumped after Marcelo Bielsa’s exit. The former head coach posted data and sharp replies on X.

Leeds Live reports that Allardyce said last week that Bielsa’s Leeds had led the Premier League for physical output, but by the time he took charge late in 2022/23 the team were among the bottom three.

Marsch replaced Bielsa in February 2022 and kept Leeds up, but was sacked the following February after winning four of 20 league games in 2022/23. Javi Gracia followed, winning three of 12, before Allardyce oversaw the final four matches for one point as Leeds were relegated.

On Monday evening Marsch posted a graph that appeared to show Leeds topping the running charts across the first 20 gameweeks of that season, captioning his X post: “Really??” He later clarified “game week 1-20” and told a user to “learn to read pal”.

When a supporter replied that relegation “speaks for itself”, Marsch answered: “Except we kept the team up”, referring to 2021/22. The 52-year-old is now head coach of Canada’s national team.
