Jhon Arias will travel to Brazil on Thursday 12 February to report to Palmeiras at the Academia de Futebol in São Paulo. According to Nosso Palestra, the Colombian was unveiled last Saturday and is due to join the squad this week.
The 28-year-old has signed through December 2029 in a deal worth about €25m, roughly R$155m at current rates.
He was regularised in the CBF’s BID on Tuesday 10, then registered for the Campeonato Paulista on Wednesday 11, clearing him to play in the second phase scheduled for 21-22 February, with the opponent still to be confirmed.
Arias will complete club formalities on Saturday 14 before taking the field. His debut should come in the Paulista quarter-finals that same weekend.
Palmeiras had pursued Arias since his Fluminense days, when the Rio club did not want to strengthen a Brazilian rival, and they also competed in this latest move.
Since the end of the Club World Cup he has been at Wolverhampton, where his contract granted Fluminense priority on any sale. Palmeiras’ bid triggered notification to Fluminense, who did not match, allowing the São Paulo club to finalise terms with the player and his representatives.
At the English club he wore the number 10 shirt and made 29 appearances, scoring two goals.
