Jhon Lucumí ‘to be considered for sale’ this summer after Bologna blocked Sunderland move | OneFootball

Bologna told Jhon Lucumí they would review a summer exit after halting Sunderland’s attempt to sign the defender last summer.

Sunderland had targeted the Colombia international to bolster Régis Le Bris’ squad, but Bologna refused a late sale with no time to source a replacement. “A year ago, we couldn’t sell him at the end of the transfer window, but we promised him that this year, given a suitable offer, we’d make it happen,” Claudio Fenucci said, speaking to Pallone nel 7.

The stance could enable a move in the current window, although any bidder would need to meet Bologna’s valuation. Lucumí is under contract and remains an important figure for the Serie A side, so the club are under no pressure to sell cheaply.

“The transfer window hasn’t really taken off yet, and if it didn’t for Lucumi either, we’d be happy to keep him,” he added.

Sunderland continue to assess defensive additions, especially left-sided and footed options, with Premier League, domestic cup and European commitments increasing the need for depth.
