Alex Jimenez believes that AC Milan showed they can compete with any team during their semi-final second leg win over Inter.

Jimenez was given the nod at right wing-back for the third straight game in the new 3-4-3 system that Sergio Conceicao seems to have settled on, and it was a positive performance overall from the Spaniard.

He had a hand in a lot of good things that Milan did going forward, including providing a pinpoint cross for Luka Jovic to head in and make it 1-0. He got a 7.5 out of 10 in our players ratings, making him one of the best performers.

Amid speculation that the Rossoneri will soon discuss the future of the defender with Real Madrid – who have buy-back clauses in their favour – it was certainly another strong case for a regular starting spot.

Jimenez spoke in the mixed zone to the microphones of TeleLombardia at the end of the game to share his thoughts on what was a memorable night at San Siro. MilanNews transcribed his comments.

Many say: ‘If Milan always faced Inter, who knows where they would be…’

“It’s true, it seems that against Inter we play differently than we do in other games. But that’s also normal.”

How important was this win?

“Yes, it was too important for us. By winning the Coppa Italia we can get into Europe, given that we’re not doing so well in the league. It was too important for us and we played the game we had to play.”

Now you are finding consistency. Do you feel ready to stay at high levels?

“Yes, a little bit. It’s all thanks to the coach who gives me the confidence to play. It’s all thanks to him. I just want to work and do the things he tells me to do.”

Now you have to try to finish the season well…

“We are Milan, I think that after this match we have to move forward and win all the ones that are missing. Today we saw on the pitch that we have quality and that we can win against any team.”
