FC Barcelona maintained their red-hot form at the start of this new season as they beat the newly-promoted Racing Club side 7-2 in their last night’s La Liga game at the Spotify Camp Nou. Undoubtedly, this was a memorable night for the Blaugranes, as they put on a show for their fans, while the hat-trick from Raphinha also means he is now atop the Pichichi table.
However, there was also a point of concern for the Catalans from this game. The starting goalkeeper, Joan Garcia, was not able to continue playing after he slipped on the artificial turf, which was quite wet due to rain, as he went out to retrieve a ball that had gone out of play. The goalie made an awkward movement, and concerns about his fitness grew as he did not step on to the pitch for the second half.
Hansi Flick decided to replace him with Wojciech Szczesny as the coach did not want to take any risks with such an important player. The Pole himself was also not able to warm up properly because of the torrential rain that significantly impacted the game.
According to Diario AS, the initial feeling about Garcia is that he is only suffering from a minor problem, and thus will be able to play in the upcoming game against Sevilla without any issues. The club might undertake detailed tests on him to ensure there is no serious underlying problem.
Meanwhile, Szczesny did not have a very good outing. Racing were able to take advantage of his indecisiveness as one of their attackers pressed him to get the ball and score his team’s second goal of the night.
Thus, Barcelona fans would be keen to see Joan Garcia return to defend their goal in their next game against Sevilla, which is going to be their last game before the start of the September international break.
