One of the names that attracted a lot of attention prior to the game between Barcelona and Mallorca was Joan Garcia. His registration was pending yesterday, but developments were certainly positive. Ultimately, he did end up getting registered in time for the game.
Moreover, he ended up delivering a great performance that showcased composure, reliable ball-playing ability, good awareness to come off his line, and the ability to take a rather nasty hit for the team. He even spoke about certain topics following the game.
As quoted by Mundo Deportivo, the Barcelona goalkeeper gave his assessment of the match itself and did acknowledge the rather strange nature of certain events that unfolded:
“It was a bit strange. It’s not normal for a team to go down to nine men in the first half, but these are match situations. We managed the game well. We’d have liked to score a bit earlier to be sure, but overall we’re happy with the win.”
Moreover, he also addressed the risky challenge that Vedat Muriqi made on him. With the ball well beyond his reach, the Mallorca striker aimed the bottom of his boot straight at Garcia’s face, and it ended up getting the forward sent off:
“He caught me in the face. I don’t know with which part of his body, but he hit me. If VAR told Martínez Munuera to review it and overturn his initial decision, then it must have been for a reason.”
Garcia also addressed the goal scored by Ferran Torres, one that was controversial for the Mallorca fans, and gave an answer similar to the one previously given by Hansi Flick:
“It’s the referee who has to blow the whistle, and until he does, we have to keep playing.”
Ultimately, the most important thing is that Barça managed to secure all three points. That was the goal, and it is certainly a positive thing to see that Garcia also got to make his official debut and do so with such a solid performance.
