Joan Laporta is set to be inaugurated once again as Barcelona president, having won the election by a sweeping margin over Victor Font earlier in the year.

Ahead of his inauguration, Laporta will have a historic record firmly within his sights, as he looks to lead Barcelona to an era of glory.

According to a report compiled by Diario SPORT from the club’s official list of honours, Barcelona have won 162 titles across all their professional sections during Laporta’s two spells in charge.

That figure leaves Laporta on the verge of becoming the most successful president in Barcelona’s entire history.

The current record belongs to Josep Lluis Nunez, the club’s longest-serving president, who won 179 titles across his 22 years at the helm.

With nearly twelve years as president already and five more ahead of him following his re-election, Laporta now sits just 17 titles away from surpassing that landmark.

Of the 162 titles won under Laporta, 70 came during his first spell between 2003 and 2010, with the remaining 92 arriving in his second term, which began in 2021.

Handball has been the most successful section across his tenures with 49 titles, followed by roller hockey with 39. Men’s football (23) and women’s football (22) have contributed almost equally while basketball (15) and futsal (14) complete the picture.

Two very different eras

Laporta’s first spell coincided with the birth of arguably the greatest Barcelona side in history, built first around Ronaldinho and later perfected under Pep Guardiola.

His second term, by contrast, has been defined by reconstruction. A delicate financial situation forced the club to rebuild while still competing at the highest level.

The arrival of Hansi Flick has reinvigorated the men’s first team, now led by a fresh generation of La Masia talent, including Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi, Fermin Lopez, Gavi and Marc Bernal, alongside established stars such as Pedri and Joan Garcia.

Much of the success of Laporta’s second term has been driven by the extraordinary dominance of the women’s team.

Since 2021, the side has won four Champions Leagues, six league titles, five Copa de la Reina trophies and five Spanish Super Cups, establishing itself as the undisputed benchmark in world women’s football.

No other European club has dominated the women’s game with such authority, and that success explains a significant portion of Barcelona’s trophy haul during this period.
