The atmosphere around Barcelona has been intense as the club’s presidential elections take place, with thousands of members preparing to cast their votes.

Just ahead of the day’s events, one of the team’s most exciting young stars, Lamine Yamal, unexpectedly became one of the main talking points.

The Barcelona forward shared a photo on his social media account showing himself alongside presidential candidate Joan Laporta.

The image, taken when Yamal signed his contract renewal with the club, quickly attracted attention among fans and media.

While the post did not contain a written message openly asking fans to vote for Laporta, the symbolism of the image was clear.

Yamal shared the photograph with two blue heart emojis, which many supporters interpreted as a sign of support for the current president.

Response from Laporta

The gesture comes at an important moment for the club, as a total of 114,504 Barcelona members have been called to vote in the presidential election.

Among those eligible to vote are several players and staff members connected to the first team.

Within the Barcelona dressing room, the election has not gone unnoticed, as many members of the squad are aware of the importance of the vote and some of them are planning to participate once their footballing commitments are completed.

Laporta himself was asked about Yamal’s social media post when he arrived at the polling station.

The president admitted that the gesture from the young forward had touched him. “The photo Lamine Yamal posted moved me, and I’m very grateful to him,” he told Catalunya Radio.

Despite the political atmosphere surrounding the club, the players still have an important match to focus on, as Barcelona are scheduled to face Sevilla later today.

Because of the match, the club has advised players who are also members to vote after the game for logistical and security reasons.

Once the stadium begins to empty, those eligible are expected to head to the VIP voting table.
