Joan Laporta has once again emerged victorious in FC Barcelona’s presidential elections held on 15 March and, just weeks on, is already shaping the club’s direction as he prepares to officially resume his duties as president on 1 July.

Until then, the institutional transition remains under the supervision of his trusted vice president, Rafael Yuste, although Laporta continues to play an active role in key decisions behind the scenes.

After his victory, he appeared in an interview with Mon Esport, and as Mundo Deportivo has reported, he discussed several topics related to the Blaugrana club. One such topic on which he commented was Hansi Flick’s renewal.

Joan Laporta made it clear that there are currently no immediate plans to finalize Flick’s renewal, stressing that the decision will be taken at the end of the season in line with the coach’s own wishes.

“He prefers to analyze the situation at the end of the season and decide what to do.”

Expanding on this stance, the president-elect highlighted Flick’s professionalism and self-awareness, while also confirming that the club is fully open to extending his stay.

“At the end of the season, calmly, we will talk about it. He doesn’t feel any urgency. He is a very honest man with himself and very professional. I believe he has earned the renewal, but he prefers to discuss it at the end of the season, analyze the situation, and decide what to do. If we agree on another year, he already has it. I think he feels that if he had many years on his contract, someone might think he could relax.”

There is no doubt that Hansi Flick deserves as long a contract with Barcelona as he wants, with the improvements he has brought to the team. But with he himself not wanting a long commitment, it makes sense for the club to approach this matter on a yearly basis. Still, hopefully, the German would remain with the Blaugrana club for a long time to come.
