Joan Laporta speaks about changing the name of Camp Nou: Will this happen!

The iconic stadium of FC Barcelona will not be bearing the name of its legendary former player, Lionel Messi. This decision was confirmed by the club's president, Joan Laporta, following deliberations by the board of directors.

Laporta stated that while the idea was considered, it was ultimately found to be unsuitable. The venue will continue to be known as the Spotify Camp Nou.

Regarding the possibility of a statue in Messi's honor, Laporta indicated that no final decision has been made. He explained that the club's immediate focus lies elsewhere, and the matter of a permanent tribute will be addressed after the ongoing stadium renovation is completed. The president did stress that Messi is worthy of a distinctive commemoration.

Laporta also revealed plans for a future celebration, announcing:"The club is planning to give Messi a grand farewell at a packed Camp Nou, with 105,000 fans in attendance."
