FC Barcelona secured their passage to the Copa del Rey semi-final as they beat a hardy Albacete side in the quarter-finals last night with a 1-2 scoreline.
Lamine Yamal and Ronald Araujo were the scorers of the two goals for the Blaugrana side, and as MARCA has reported, their contributions were recognized at the very highest level of the club following this game, i.e., by the president Joan Laporta.
Talking after the match, the Blaugrana president was full of praise for the two goalscorers:
“Lamine is a genius; he opened the scoring. I’m especially happy for Araujo, who scored a goal, and we are very pleased with him. That goal gave us peace of mind. We play very good football, and that shows in the results.”
Laporta also talked about the match against Albacete:
“We controlled the game, but Albacete made things difficult for us. We are the rightful winners and are in the semifinals. It’s a typical Copa match with a great atmosphere, and they were a worthy opponent.”
The Barcelona president also commented on how significant the new Spotify Camp Nou could turn out to be:
“I’m proud to say it will be the best stadium in Europe, with the largest capacity, comfort, safety, commercial appeal, in a city like Barcelona… The Champions League is the most important club competition in the world, and we would like it to be played at the Spotify Camp Nou in 2029. Also, the World Cup final in 2030. We will work to make this a reality.”
The Barcelona top official provided an update about the upcoming club elections:
“According to the statutes, we have decided to hold them on the 9th, and some of us will resign to run again. The elections begin; this is part of the normal democratic process of a club owned by its members. We hope there will be great participation.”
Joan Laporta deserves a lot of credit for once again bringing sporting glory back to Barcelona. The team’s results since the last season make them one of the most fearsome sides in Europe, and hopefully, this will continue to remain the case for years to come.
