One player that the club has been heavily linked with in recent times is Joan Garcia. The Espanyol shot-stopper is set to move to a new club this summer and despite the Catalan divide, Barcelona want to sign the 24-year-old Spaniard.

Now, it has emerged, as per AS, Joan Laporta has already informed the Barcelona board that he is confident that Joan Garcia would move to the Catalan club and if that happens, the club would look to sell Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.

Barcelona need to do this to ensure Joan becomes the number one at the club. He doesn’t want to be loaned out and the Catalan club will have to sacrifice their club captain. Ter Stegen’s form in recent times has not be convincing.

Wojciech Szczesny is expected to stay on as the backup goalkeeper and he will be able to guide the young Spaniard and refine his game. However, selling Ter Stegen is much easier as an idea, than it is, from a realistic perspective.

Ter Stegen has gone through a lot of injuries in the past couple of seasons, and at 33, he is not getting any younger. The German goalkeeper has been shaky, to put it slightly, and this Joan Garcia campaign has surely destroyed his credibility.

The German isn’t likely to be a hot commodity in the transfer market, and being the club captain, he also earns a significant salary. Moving him on is likely to be difficult, considering his wages and it is important for Barcelona to evaluate this situation.

One factor that could ultimately ease this complex situation is Ter Stegen’s own ambition. As he eyes the 2026 World Cup, the German goalkeeper will be eager to play regularly, a scenario that could help Barcelona facilitate his departure.
