Speaking in an interview on RAC1 (h/t SPORT), re-elected FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has confirmed that a new contract for Hansi Flick is just around the corner.
This comes after reports suggested that a meeting had taken place between Barcelona director Deco and Flick’s agent Pini Zahavi, to discuss the renewal.
The German manager’s current contract with the Catalan club runs until 2027, and an extension has always been on the cards, but subject to Laporta getting re-elected as president.
Now, with the elections out of the way and Laporta back at the helm, things are moving along on the renewal front for Flick.
‘We all intend to renew his contract. It expires in 2027 and we always want him to have another year left on his contract. Hansi is also in favour,” Laporta said.
“We’re going to announce his renewal as soon as possible because we believe it’s the best course of action,” he added.
Praising the German head coach and what he brings to the table, the newly-elected president stated:
“Hansi has great respect for Barça’s authentic style and brings the versatility of a highly demanding professional. He has made the team work with the same players who weren’t working together before.”

“He has given the team a boost through his clarity in expressing his thoughts. He explains himself very clearly and has a lot of personality in what he says, in the style of Rijkaard and Guardiola,” he further added.
“There are times when he might be unhappy because of his high standards.”
The Barça president expressed his desire for long-term continuity with Flick at the helm, saying:
“He’s very happy in the city and at the club. He’s got everything sorted here and I’d love for him to stay for the next five years. For now, we’ll extend his contract for another year.”
Meanwhile, Laporta also clarified that he hopes to extend the contract of Deco as well, praising the sporting director’s work so far, as well as his understanding with Flick.
“I’d like Deco to stay on. He does an extraordinary job and forms a very good partnership with Flick. They get on very well both personally and professionally, and that’s not easy because they both know a lot about football,” said the president.
“I hope Deco agrees to stay on. I think he will. Deco is more reserved and introverted. He struggles a lot with his job, but he enjoys it and must continue. We’re very happy with both of them and they’re going to bring us success.”
