According to O Jogo, the third episode of the documentary “Conseguimos Juntos” features Porto goalkeeper João Costa delivering a pre-match address, at the request of Francesco Farioli, before the clássico at the Luz.
In that speech, Costa described Benfica as a club of stardom, media attention and vanity, setting it against Porto’s DNA of work, resilience and sacrifice.
He told team-mates that together nobody beats them, adding that while Benfica might believe they hold the advantage, they were already losing internally because Porto possess a family bond.
Costa urged the squad to run for one another, push themselves in every sprint, out-sprint their rivals and commit fully in each duel.
He closed by recalling words attributed to their eternal Jorge, saying Porto had a team again and were FC Porto once more, before calling on the group to show their grit.
