João Diogo Manteigas has suggested Benfica could hold one of their general assemblies in the Minho region, where the club’s membership is strong, according to Glorioso 1904.
The former presidential candidate directed his appeal to the General Assembly board via the "Benfica Vencerá" Instagram account, the platform he used during his campaign.
His idea arrives as two key meetings are planned for June, one to review the 2025/26 sporting season and another to debate the 2026/27 budget and activity plan in line with the club’s new statutes.
Decentralising a general assembly would pose logistical and regulatory questions, since these gatherings are traditionally held in Lisbon.
There has been no official response from the club’s leadership so far, but the topic is expected to feature in the coming weeks. In the same video, the 43-year-old lawyer urged the team on, accepting the season has not gone as hoped and stressing there are still three finals to be decided.
