João Gomes marks 25th birthday with Flamengo message as fans call for return | OneFootball

On his 25th birthday on Wednesday 12 February, Flamengo academy product João Gomes posted a message of affection for the club on X, prompting supporters to urge him to return.

According to Coluna Do Fla, Flamengo shared a birthday tribute on social media and the Wolverhampton midfielder replied on X, expressing love for the club and gratitude.

Fans responded with congratulations and pleas for a comeback, some telling him to come home and referring to him as pitbull, while others said they are always waiting for him.

Gomes progressed through Flamengo’s youth ranks and made his first-team bow in February 2021. He shone in 2022, when the club won the Libertadores and the Copa do Brasil.

Wolverhampton completed his signing in January 2023 for €18.7 million, valued at R$ 104 million at the time.

Flamengo face Botafogo on Sunday 15 at 17:30 Brasília time at Estádio Nilton Santos in the Carioca quarter-finals. The game will be broadcast on Globo, GE TV on YouTube and Premiere pay-per-view.
