Rob Edwards has challenged Joao Gomes to keep his levels after the Brazilian starred in Wolves’ 2-0 West Midlands derby win over Aston Villa.

Per ExpressAndStar.com, Edwards gave the midfielder a pep talk before recalling him for the Villa clash.

Gomes, left out for two matches amid injury concerns and a dip in form, scored and took man-of-the-match honours at Molineux.

Edwards said he thinks the midfielder is a wonderful player who has shown real glimpses since his arrival, but that it can be hard in a team that has struggled for results, when players may question a big move.

He felt Gomes stepped up the other night and said that is the level they want to see from him all the time. Edwards added it is only going to benefit him if he continues to perform like that.

Wolves now prepare for a Liverpool double-header this week in the Premier League and FA Cup.
