João Pinto has revisited the chaotic trophy presentation at Jamor after Porto’s 1994 Taça de Portugal win over Sporting, joking he learned padel while fending off stones with the cup.

According to O Jogo, the memories surfaced in a club video bringing together João Pinto, Aloíso and Rui Barros to share stories from the 1980s and 1990s.

Porto beat Sporting, but the handover in the Jamor tribune was far from calm, with angry Sporting supporters in the central stand disrupting the ceremony.

After a lengthy impasse, the Porto squad climbed the steps to collect the trophy, producing one of the defining images of their then captain and number two.

Pinto recounted that scuffles gave way to stone throwing as they made their way up, yet they still went to retrieve the silverware. He quipped that the experience effectively taught him how to play padel, using the cup as a makeshift bat.
