João Rego joins Casa Pia on season-long loan from Benfica | OneFootball

Benfica winger João Rego has joined Casa Pia on loan until the end of the season, his first spell away from the club.

According to Glorioso 1904, Marco Silva saw regular first-team minutes as unlikely for the Portugal youth international this year, so a loan was judged the best route for his development.

Rego made his senior debut for Benfica in 2023/24, though most of his football came with the second team. In 2024/25 he lifted the Taça da Liga, his first professional trophy.

He made 10 first-team appearances last season across Liga Portugal, Taça de Portugal and Taça da Liga, scoring once.

This season he featured in the trip to St. Gallen in the second qualifying round for the Europa League as he looked to impress Marco Silva.

At Casa Pia, the 19-year-old will aim to earn minutes, gain experience and return to the Estádio da Luz better prepared to fight for a place.
