João Veloso out for season after shoulder surgery, blow for José Mourinho

João Veloso has undergone shoulder surgery and will not play again this season for Benfica, leaving José Mourinho without the midfielder.

The operation took place on Wednesday. The club said in a statement that the procedure on his right shoulder went as planned, and he now begins rehabilitation.

Mourinho also faces the absence of Richard Ríos, who will miss at least five decisive matches.

This season Veloso has made four first-team appearances, two in Liga Portugal Betclic, one in Taça de Portugal and one in the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira.

For Benfica B he has logged 696 minutes across nine games and one goal. He is valued at 1.5 million euros.
