João Victor says an early injury and the emergence of António Silva curtailed his short Benfica spell, with the Brazilian centre-back spending a little over a year at the club.
"I arrived injured and was out for around three months. At the time Lucas Veríssimo was also injured and Morato, who had started the season as a starter, got injured as well. Then António Silva came through, he is a great centre-back, and kept the starting place," he told Globoesporte.
"I believe the injury harmed me a lot, but it is part of an athlete's career. If I had not been injured, maybe my time at Benfica would have been different, but it is part of the process."
In September it was reported Benfica would receive about 4.5 million euros from his move to Vasco da Gama. The club have not yet received the agreed sum and have taken legal steps.
In 2025 João Victor, valued at 5 million euros, made 50 official appearances for Vasco da Gama and CSKA Moscow. He played 4,269 minutes, scored two goals and provided one assist.
