Jocelin Ta Bi’s proposed deadline-day switch to Burnley has collapsed after the Clarets withdrew late. According to Sunderland Echo, the decision came from Burnley after talks had advanced and the winger had been close to joining before Tuesday night’s deadline.
The 21-year-old was left out of Sunderland’s squad for the 1-0 win over Fulham at the Stadium of Light on Sunday, making a move appear increasingly likely.
Burnley had pushed to sign the Ivory Coast winger and Ta Bi had been granted permission to explore the switch. Régis Le Bris hinted before the Fulham game that a temporary move could be possible, with Sunderland keen for him to gain senior minutes.
With Burnley now out, Sunderland and Ta Bi face a call on his immediate future in the closing hours of the window, amid interest from elsewhere in England and from clubs in France.
Sunderland rate Ta Bi highly, and any exit was viewed as a development step rather than a sign he is out of their long-term plans.
The collapse comes as Sunderland work on incomings. Florent Ghisolfi and the recruitment team remain active before the deadline, while several fringe players could still depart if appropriate opportunities arise.
