Joe Aribo joins Leicester to revive form after ‘difficult’ Southampton spell

Joe Aribo has joined Leicester City on loan until the end of the season, looking to revive his form after limited minutes at Southampton. He arrives with a point to prove.

He bolsters a midfield hit by injuries to Jordan James, Aaron Ramsey and Hamza Choudhury, so he should see regular minutes. At Southampton, between managers Will Still and Tonda Eckert, he made seven appearances, all as a substitute, across 30 Championship fixtures so far.

“I’m excited. I just wanted a change of scenery, to get back playing, and be at my best again.” He told the club.

“It’s been a difficult season with not much playing time. It’s important that I can prove a point and be my best self every single day.”

He is likely to rival Louis Page for the box-to-box role while James is out. The Welshman suffered a hamstring injury at Wrexham and is set to be sidelined until at least March.

If Aribo proves a hit, City will be able to sign him on a free transfer in the summer, with his contract at St Mary’s expiring at the end of the season. He will wear no.18, vacated by Julian Carranza after his loan was cut short last month.
