Joe Cole has called for calm over Estevao, who gets a chance to start tonight in the EFL Cup against Leeds.

Joe Cole has been on TalkSport today talking some sense about Estevao.

The young winger is reportedly already unhappy with a lack of first team action this season at Chelsea. But Cole thinks everyone needs to calm down.

“He just needs a bit of time. Like we’re so rushed to make somebody a superstar,” Cole said.

“He ticks all the boxes. Then he’s Brazilian, he’s flairy, he’s got the name, he’s exciting, and I just think it’d be okay for six months just to come off the bench, play here, affecting the game, and just ease him into this team.”

Estevao starts tonight and we expect he will start in most cup games this season, as well as getting some league starts when teammates are injured or suspended. Will it be enough for him long term? No. But will it be enough for this season?

We don’t really believe the stories of his unhappiness anyway. It smells like journalists trying to make a story out of nothing. There’s no way Estevao came to Chelsea and thought he would be guaranteed a starting sport as a teenager.
