Leeds United are weighing a January move for Chelsea prospect Tyrique George to bolster a thin attack, with Joe Cole praising him over the past two years.
According to Leedsunited.news, summer attempts to add another forward fell away when moves for Harry Wilson and Facundo Buonanotte did not land, and Dan James is now sidelined, prompting Daniel Farke to switch to a 3-5-2.
An attacking midfielder is a priority next month, but Leeds may also seek cover for James, and George has emerged as a leading option. Everton and Fulham have been linked.
Fulham believed they had a £22m agreement for George in the summer, but it collapsed late on and Leeds subsequently missed out on Wilson.
Since breaking through last season, George has 12 goal contributions in 36 Chelsea outings, with a breakthrough in the Conference League. Cole said: “He’s a real bright spark. George has taken his opportunity and affected games as a dribbler, he’s direct, he’s every full-back’s nightmare. He makes things happen.”
It is unclear whether Chelsea would ask for a similar figure, but that Fulham move was said to be north of £20m, and Robbie Evans has already warned that Leeds are walking a thin PSR line.
Farke is likely to want a couple of additions, so the club must decide whether to commit most of next month’s budget to George or chase bargains. George is a clear talent, though inexperienced, and that outlay on one player may be a risk.
