This pair could seriously help the Greens' cause in the season ahead

We are entering the last few days of the summer transfer window, with limited time remaining for clubs to add the final touches to their squads until January comes along.

After months of preparations and consultations, teams will still be chasing that elusive final piece of the jigsaw before the end of the month, that could prove to be the difference in the season ahead.

As with all the EFL clubs, Plymouth Argyle will be in talks with plenty of sides about last-minute signings this week, as they look to bolster Wayne Rooney’s options at Home Park.

With that in mind, here we take a look at two more names that could be making the move to Devon before the week comes to an end, as the Pilgrims look to improve their squad while they still can.

Joe Gelhardt

Joe Gelhardt’s time at Leeds United has been one of frustration for the 22-year-old, featuring in just ten Championship matches for the Yorkshire side during the previous campaign.

The young star still has plenty of potential, and a move away from LS11 could really benefit him at this time in his career, and Argyle could offer him the perfect opportunity to resurrect his career.

With Rooney in the dugout, the Devon outfit could be well-placed in making a move for the former Wigan Athletic in the final few days of the transfer window, with the two often being compared during the early stages of Gelhardt’s career.

With one of the best players the country has ever seen giving him guidance, Gelhardt could use a stint at Home Park to help springboard him back into the conversation as one of the top talents in the EFL, rather than continuing to bide his time at Elland Road.

A previous fruitful spell with Sunderland proved he is a top player at the level, and with further additions coming into the forward areas for the Whites, a move away - even if it’s only a loan move - could be best for all involved.

Luke Cundle

Luke Cundle has been the subject of plenty of transfer speculation during this transfer window, but as yet he is still a Wolverhampton Wanderers player.

The playmaker was a key part of the Argyle side that adapted to life in the Championship so well at the start of last season, and the Pilgrims could do a whole lot worse than trying to persuade him to come back to Home Park in the coming days.

After Greens boss Steven Schumacher left for Stoke City last December, Cundle soon followed suit in the January transfer window, and spent the second-half of the season in the Potteries, where he once again caught the eye.

City have reportedly had a £500,000 bid rejected for the 22-year-old this summer, and Argyle should be in the conversation about bringing the creative midfielder back to Devon before the week comes to an end.

Cundle was influential in knitting the side together in the previous campaign alongside the magical Finn Azaz, and with Argyle still lacking that attacking midfield star this season there is a place in the team just waiting to be filled by the Wolves man.

Whether Simon Hallett and co. believe he is worth splashing the cash in would remain to be seen, but this side is calling out for more creativity in the final third as it stands, or it could be a long season ahead for everyone of a green persuasion.
