Joe Gelhardt’s Leeds United future looks uncertain, and a pay rise at Elland Road could complicate a permanent return to Hull City.

Hull Live reports that both parties remain interested, with Gelhardt keen to sign and the Tigers open to bringing him back, though a permanent deal is described as a distinct possibility rather than imminent. Separately, Alan Nixon reports the forward is due a pay rise at Leeds in the final year of his contract, making any match a major investment for Hull, and he adds the club could look at cheaper alternatives amid expected competition.

Gelhardt spent the past 18 months on loan at Hull, joining for the second half of 2024/25 before a season-long return in 2025/26. He scored 15 goals with four assists as Hull finished sixth, then won the play-offs with a 1-0 Wembley victory over Middlesbrough, despite a two-month injury lay-off.

The trigger for any Leeds pay rise is unclear. An exit still feels more likely than not, with Daniel Farke not using him last season and reinforcements looming, including imminent free agent arrival Harry Wilson in similar positions.

Leeds sought £3-4 million for Gelhardt last summer before loaning him to Hull, who were under an embargo that prevented a fee. That call may now prove shrewd, with his valuation likely higher after promotion.
