Joe Rodon open to Leeds vice-captaincy and hails Harry Wilson’s leadership | OneFootball

Joe Rodon says becoming Leeds United vice-captain would be an honour, with the role vacant after Pascal Struijk’s exit and Daniel Farke yet to decide.

According to Leeds Live, Struijk deputised when skipper Ethan Ampadu did not start before his £18 million move to Brighton & Hove Albion. Rodon, 28, is a vocal presence, has 136 appearances and has not yet led Leeds out from the start.

Farke explained James Justin wore the armband against Birmingham City in the FA Cup in February because usual contenders were absent, and he namechecked Rodon after Ampadu and Struijk. Only Jack Harrison, Daniel James and Wilfried Gnonto have more club appearances, all joining before Rodon.

Rodon underlined his attachment to the club and said he would gladly take on whatever responsibility he is given, while stressing the manager will make the final call.

Leeds’ dressing room is viewed as mature, with players holding one another to account. Farke has previously said Jaka Bijol has captain pedigree, and James Justin and Dominic Calvert-Lewin offer experience.

New signing Harry Wilson, 29, could fit that bracket. Rodon said his Wales team-mate has grown into leadership through 69 caps, leads by performances and has become a mainstay as senior players have moved on, with progress at Fulham reinforcing that status.
