Joel Piroe has reached an unwanted landmark at Leeds United, with only one scoring game across the last 12 months. Leeds Live highlights that the forward is now on the fringes.

February 2025 brought his first three-game streak, a brace in the 7-0 against Cardiff then goals against Coventry and Watford. He moved to 14 league goals as Farke pushed him towards 20, then struck in a 3-1 win at Sheffield United.

He ended with the Championship golden boot on 19 after four on promotion day against Stoke. Since then he has had only two Premier League starts, none since August, and he missed a penalty in the FA Cup at Derby.

There is no guarantee he starts against Norwich City in the fifth round, or again this season. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is first choice, and Piroe accepted in January he has earned it. Lukas Nmecha’s seven goals take the two new free strikers’ combined return to 17.

He is at best fourth choice behind Noah Okafor, and arguably fifth with Brenden Aaronson often alongside Calvert-Lewin. Championship and overseas sides enquired in January but he chose to fight. He could yet go a full season, and 18 months, without a club goal.

Since his last top-flight start he has played only 72 Premier League minutes, fewer than the 90 he logged in the title clincher at Plymouth Argyle. He remains a good striker, but this week’s marker invites questions over a possible point of no return.
