Daniel Farke prefers a streamlined squad at Leeds, a policy that has left some on the fringes. Joel Piroe’s minutes have dwindled, yet, according to The Athletic, he is content to bide his time despite January noise.

With one game a week and a 25-man group, players outside the bench can be left idle. Sebastiaan Bornauw has had only two short Premier League cameos since his £5m move.

Piroe has not started a Premier League match since the 5-0 hammering and has featured in half of the 16 league games. He joined for £16m after 19 Championship goals last season and might have expected to start more often.

Piroe signed a four-year deal in 2023, so his fee is amortised at roughly £4m a year. The add-ons are likely to have been triggered by his goals and promotion.

By January he will be two and a half years into that contract, which runs to June 2027. Any bid above £6m would count as a PSR profit at that point.
