Newcastle United will lock horns with Liverpool at Anfield this Monday night as they try to grind out a good result on their travels in the Premier League. The Magpies suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day, so they would be eager to put in a much-improved display at Merseyside.
Eddie Howe will opt for the 4-3-3 formation and is expected to make one change to his first XI for this game. Joelinton will get a chance to play from the start of this contest while Lewis Miley makes way for him and drops to the bench.
Defence
Martin Dubravka will operate in goal for the Magpies after conceding three times in his last league appearance. Fabian Schar will resume his defensive partnership with Sven Botman at the centre of Newcastle’s backline as they focus on keeping things solid at the back during the 90 minutes.
Kieran Trippier will look to catch the eye as the right-back while Dan Burn tries to give a good account of himself on the other side as the left-back. Both of them will have to perform their defensive duties well if they are to keep the Liverpool wide players quiet this Monday night.
Paul Dummett will provide cover for the defensive positions on the bench.

Midfield
Joelinton, Bruno Guimaraes and Sean Longstaff will operate as Howe’s central midfielders as they focus on making life tough for the opposition at the centre of the park. All three of them need to work their socks off if they want to win the 50-50 duels in midfield.
Lewis Miley will be available for selection on the bench as he waits for his chance to make an impact in the second half if needed.
Attack
Anthony Gordon will look to catch the eye on the left flank while Miguel Almiron hopes to put his pace to good use on the right wing. Alexander Isak will lead the line for the Tyneside club in the final third. He would have to figure out a way to threaten the Liverpool goal during the 90 minutes.
Callum Wilson will be named on the bench and might come on to influence the game in the final quarter if Howe decides to call upon his services.
