Switzerland coach Murat Yakin is hopeful Johan Manzambi could be available for Sunday’s World Cup quarter-final against Argentina after the midfielder missed the last-16 penalty shootout win over Colombia through injury.

“I can’t say whether it would be medically advisable. Of course, we have hope, but only if it makes sense and there are no risks involved,” he told Blick.

Manzambi has three goals and two assists from Switzerland’s first four matches at the tournament, but a knee problem sustained in training ruled him out of the Colombia tie.

“His absence was a shock for all of us; we all suffered. As a coach, you want your best player at the moment on the pitch.”

The SC Freiburg midfielder will only be considered if there is no risk attached, and Yakin remains hopeful he can recover in time to be involved.
