Johan Manzambi ‘to sign’ for Aston Villa after World Cup breakout? | OneFootball

According to The Athletic, Switzerland international Johan Manzambi, 20, is close to joining Aston Villa rather than Newcastle, having previously been reported as near to a move to Newcastle with a provisional 60 million euro agreement with Fribourg.

A Premier League switch appears certain, the remaining question has been which club.

Manzambi shone at the 2026 World Cup with three goals and two assists, but he did not finish the tournament, missing Switzerland’s last 16 and quarter-final ties due to a knee contusion. His stock in England has nevertheless continued to rise.

The move to Villa is thought to be close to completion and could be finalised in the coming days.

Newcastle will not play in Europe next season, while Villa, who beat Fribourg 3-0 to win the Europa League, will be in the Champions League after finishing fourth.
