John Maduka rejects the rumors circulating about Elvis Chipozeze and his performance!

Despite Magesi FC's Carling Knockout Cup journey ending at the hands of Orlando Pirates, a clear star has emerged for the reigning champions: captain and goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze. His heroic performance in the elimination was no isolated event; it marked his sixth Man of the Match award in as many cup appearances over two seasons, a stunning personal tally that has also earned the club R600,000 in prize money.

While many observers see a player who elevates his game for the cup, head coach John Maduka firmly rejects this narrative. In the wake of the defeat, Maduka was effusive in his praise for his captain, whose first-half heroics kept the team in contention.

“It means a lot, he’s the captain of the team who leads by example – so happy and proud of him, he kept us in the game, especially in the first half, in the second, not much to be done,”Maduka stated, underscoring the value of his leader. “But good to have Chipezeze in this team, he’s shown that he’s a leader and so proud to have him in this team.”

However, the coach was quick to challenge the perceived disparity between Chipezeze's cup and league form. For Maduka, the goalkeeper's brilliance is not reserved for knockout football but is a consistent feature of his contribution. “To be honest he works very hard, I might disagree with you to say he’s not done well in the league, he has done well for this team,” he asserted, defending his player's overall impact. “In this cup, you know only one team can win, so he’s been really good to try and help us win but also in the league, he has been very important.”

This unwavering support for his captain highlights not just a single performance, but a coach's broader belief in his team's foundation and a shared excitement for what lies ahead.
