Shelbourne FC is delighted to confirm that striker John Martin has put pen to paper on a contract extension. The forward who has tasted league and European successes since first signing for the Reds in 2024 has now committed his future to the club once again.

John’s 2026 season has unfortunately been beset by injury, but the Kilkenny native has still managed to find the net on 6 occasions so far despite the setbacks. Having netted 10 times last season, the combative 27-year-old is eager to get back to scoring goals in Red.

Speaking about his new deal John said: “I am delighted to sign back with Shels for another year. I really have loved every minute of my time here and I’m grateful for the special memories that this club has given me. I am still hungry for more success and I can’t wait to be back in Tolka Park scoring goals in front of our fans.”

Shelbourne FC Head Coach John Russell is very pleased to be able to count on the striker going forward: “I’ve been a big fan of John Martin for a number of years. He brings a fantastic work ethic to the team, he’s very intelligent in his movement, and he has that striker’s instinct to get into the right area to score goals. John is the type of player every manager wants in their squad. He works incredibly hard for the team; whether that’s pressing from the front, making runs in behind or helping to link the game together. His attitude and commitment are first class.” Speaking about the future, Russell added: “Keeping John at the club is a big positive for us. He understands what this club is about, he knows the demands that come with playing for Shelbourne Football Club and he is hungry to be successful. I’m really pleased that he has committed his future to the club, and I’m looking forward to working with him and seeing him continue to make an important contribution for the last 10 league games and over the coming seasons.”

Shelbourne FC Technical Director Luke Byrne spoke about the striker’s attributes: “John is a loyal, hard-working professional. But above all else, John is an excellent footballer. These are the hallmarks of the players that we want at this club. He has achieved a lot since signing for us, but John is hungry for more success. He is an important part of the dressing room and has a big role to play for us going forward beyond this season.”
