The Scotland Internationalist was forced off the pitch on Saturday afternoon with a suspected hamstring injury.

McGinn went down holding his leg during Villa’s 2-1 win over Leicester City and was replaced by Jacob Ramsey. The extent of the injury is unclear and Villa’s medical team will assess the player with a view to their next game against West Ham in the third round of the FA Cup next Friday.

Bragging Rights and the Prize Money

The injury will likely jeopardise McGinn’s involvement in the UCL meeting at the end of January when Brendan Rodgers’ side arrive in Birmingham. Both clubs could have sealed their progression with a win on Matchday 7 but both sides will want a result for the bragging rights.

Celtic can secure progression to the play-off stage with a win over Young Boys later this month. The Swiss side have already been eliminated from the competition and are playing only for pride and of course the £1.8m prize money for a win. Celtic will be looking to build up a head of steam this month ahead of the meeting with Young Boys on Wednesday  22 January 2025.
