In a significant show of intent, club captain John McGinn has committed his future to Aston Villa by signing a new contract that will keep him at Villa Park until June 2028.
McGinn’s renewed deal arrives at an important moment in the club’s evolution. Since joining in 2018, the Scotland international has established himself as a central figure in both the engine room and the dressing-room.
As captain, he has overseen Villa’s steady rise through the ranks and now remains firmly at the heart of their ambitions for domestic and continental progress.

The club labelled the agreement as a “delightful” moment, emphasising McGinn’s importance as one of the core figures around which they intend to build for the foreseeable future.
By locking him in for the long term, Aston Villa have sent a clear message that they are not only keen to retain their key talent but also to chart a stable course under his leadership on and off the pitch.
