Crystal Palace's hopes of playing in Europe next season have been boosted with American billionaire Woody Johnson agreeing to buy John Textor's 43% stake in the club.

Multi-club ownership rules have threatened the FA Cup winner's spot in the UEFA Europa League next season due to Textor's ownership of French side Olympique Lyonnais with a decision to be made later this week.

New York Jets owner Johnson has agreed to pay £190 million to invest in the Eagles after having previously attempted to buy out Chelsea. But the 78-year-old American will have to pass the Premier League's owners' and directors' test before the deal is made official.

Textor, who also has stakes in Brazilian side Botafogo and second division Belgian outfit RWD Molenbeek, is still said to be interested in investing in English football after having previously held an interest in Everton and Watford.
