Jon Karrikaburu detained after positive breathalyser test following N-121-A incident | OneFootball

According to Navarra.com, former Real Sociedad striker Jon Karrikaburu was detained on Sunday after a positive breathalyser test. It followed a traffic incident on the N-121-A near Etulain around 18.15.

A car owned by Karrikaburu left the road and was rendered unusable. After the crash, one of the occupants reportedly departed in another vehicle.

A plain-clothes Pamplona municipal police officer noticed the second car make a prohibited turn and raised the alarm. Guardia Civil, following his directions, located the vehicle on a track in Etulain.

Officers found Karrikaburu at the wheel and he returned 0.73 mg/l of alcohol per litre of breath, above the Criminal Code threshold for this offence. Investigators have not established that he drove the car that crashed. Another person has taken responsibility and tested negative.

Sanctions for driving with a rate above 0.60 mg/l include three to six months in prison, a fine of six to 12 months or 31 to 90 days of community work, plus a driving ban of more than one year and up to four years. The case file will be sent to a Pamplona court, where it is expected to proceed via a fast-track hearing. The player could reach a plea agreement cutting any penalty by one third, and if minimums applied the ban could be around eight months.

The incident came two days after he played for Burgos, a 3-1 win over Ceuta on Friday in which the Elizondo-born forward scored.
