The Audi Summer Tour offers a direct link to our guys: in the short format ‘Tour Talk’, the FC Bayern players take you right along with them to Jeju and Hong Kong. They talk about the special atmosphere in the camp, pre-season, the new season and their personal goals – brief, compact and personal. And there’s also something for you to win at the end.

Following the first two instalments featuring Jonathan Tah and Arijon Ibrahimović, we spoke to Jonas Urbig upon our arrival at the team hotel in Hong Kong.

Urbig on...

…the time on Jeju

“We had fantastic conditions on Jeju, and the atmosphere at the friendly against Jeju SK was great too. The people in South Korea were incredibly open, warm and very enthusiastic. It was great to experience the affection for our sport even on a South Korean island. I also got to visit a traditional South Korean restaurant, where Tom (Bischof, ed.), Aleks (Pavlović) and I ended up wearing mandarin hats (laughs). I also went to the supermarket a couple of times to mingle with the locals on Jeju. I always find that really exciting. The scenery on the island was beautiful too.”

From a sporting perspective, it was a challenge for us to adjust to the high temperatures and humidity. Many of the internationals had only just returned to the squad, so we had to adapt first. But the training went very well."

…how pre-season's going

“We want to further refine the principles that form the basis of our game. What these are in detail must, of course, remain between us – but I hope they're evident in the way we play. Suffice to say this: we want to attack and defend as a unit; this team spirit is incredibly important to us. This mindset made us incredibly strong last season.”

…the time in Hong Kong

“Hong Kong is a fascinating city. But we don’t have much time to get to know Hong Kong; after all, we’re mainly here to play football – that’s our clear priority.”

…the friendly against Aston Villa

"When you wear the FC Bayern jersey, you always have to give 100 per cent. I don’t care whether it’s a friendly or a competitive match, a Bundesliga or Champions League game: you approach every encounter in exactly the same way, with the same mindset, the same conviction and the same sense of responsibility. That’s why the clash with Aston Villa will be a real test of our mettle and a game in which we want to continue to improve.”

…the FC Bayern goalkeeping group

”I think Manu once said while with the national team that we’re rivals who are also friends. That’s how I’d describe the relationship within the goalkeeping group as a whole: On the pitch, we support and spur each other on, and we also share personal interests off the pitch. We’re a close-knit group, and we’ll make sure it stays that way."

…the World Cup

“We were all knocked out together; I was part of the group. Even so, it was an incredible experience for me; I got a taste of tournament life and learnt a great deal.”
