Bild reports that Mainz striker and captain Jonathan Burkardt is leaning towards a move to move to Eintracht Frankfurt this summer.
In recent days, Frankfurt’s star striker has been linked with a move to the Premier League, either to Chelsea or Liverpool. This means that die Adler would need to find a replacement, and they have in Burkardt.
Burkardt is reportedly leaning towards moving to Frankfurt in the summer. Bayer Leverkusen are also said to be interested in the 24-year-old, but die Adler are leading the race. If Burkardt wishes to leave Mainz in the summer, he has a release clause that is worth €20m in his contract, having extended his deal back in 2024.
At Frankfurt, Burkardt could play in the Champions League next season, while staying at Mainz means he could captain them in the Conference League.
This season, the 24-year-old was the top-scoring German in the Bundesliga, ending the year with 18 goals, two ahead of Tim Kleindienst of Borussia Mönchengladbach.
The Darmstadt native is not the only player that Frankfurt are looking to bring in this summer. The club are also in a good position to sign Ritsu Doan from SC Freiburg, while Jobe Bellingham could also move to Deutsche-Bank Park, having recently visited the club.
