Atlético travel to Bilbao with renewed firepower, as Jonathan David makes his first call-up after his deadline-day arrival. Julián Alvarez is also in the squad.
According to as.com, the Canadian is ready and started for Juventus last weekend.
The summer saga around Alvarez saw him request a move to fulfil his Barcelona dream, and Atlético issued a firm no after the blaugranas negotiated behind their back. He featured briefly against Villarreal on matchday two and was whistled at the Metropolitano, then missed subsequent sessions through indisposition, which ruled him out in Sevilla.
The Araña has trained with the group all week and is among Cholo’s attacking options. All signs point to the XI that impressed in Sevilla, without a nine and with the mobility of Giuliano, Baena, Lookman and Kang-in Lee.
In defence, with Giménez unavailable, Le Normand returns after serving a one-match suspension. Esquivel and Dani Martínez are now part of the first team, with Jorge Domínguez and Jorge Castillo also included. Obed Vargas is again omitted, and his future may still lie away from the club while some markets remain open.
