Midfielder Jonathan Osorio will not join the Canadian men’s national team for the upcoming June international window after picking up an injury in Toronto’s 3-2 win over Chicago Fire FC on Saturday.
Osorio was forced off the pitch only 12 minutes into the game, departing with a lower-body injury. It appears to be a recurrent lesion for the player, who recently returned to the team after missing three games earlier with a similar lower-body issue.
It's a huge blow for Canada, as they looked to prepare for their first World Cup appearance since 1986. Osorio played a crucial role in leading Les Rouges to the top of the Concacaf table.
Canada will not be replacing Osorio on the squad, instead opting for a 24-player roster as they face Curacao and Honduras in the Concacaf Nations League.
