Wolves have already had a busy transfer window, but plenty more business could take place before the end of the month.

Wolves have had a busy start to the summer window, although Cesar Peixoto will expect plenty more business to take place in the coming weeks.

With Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez joining the club on free transfers, Wanderers have already made two statement signings, and Rafiki Said’s arrival from Standard Liege has given the team some much-needed pace in the final third.

In terms of outgoings, Joao Gomes has sealed a big-money move to Aston Villa, but that has perhaps been slower than Wolves wanted, as they do have a bloated squad right now.

Therefore, the priority may be shifting players on in the short-term, but Gomes’ sale should ensure Wolves are ready to move for any targets that do become available.

With that in mind, it could be a hectic period for the club as they count down to their Championship opener against Blackburn on August 14.

The boss has said that he wants a ‘high quality’ central midfielder to replace Gomes, and Jordan James would fit the bill for Wolves.

The Welsh international, who has won 26 caps for his country, was outstanding for Leicester at this level last season, scoring 11 goals in 34 games, and many feel his injury was a massive factor in the Foxes’ going down.

As well as bringing a goal threat, James is a powerful figure in the middle of the park, who would look to travel with the ball, and he could be the ideal partner for Andre in Peixoto’s preferred 4-2-3-1 formation.

With James also a homegrown player, which Wolves lack, it seems like a no-brainer, and whilst he may have Premier League offers, he would be guaranteed more game time at Molineux, so it could be the perfect move for all parties.

Peixoto has also explained that he wants another winger through the door, even after the addition of Said. Again, that’s understandable, as fast attacking players will be key to implementing the style of play the head coach wants.

Another player Wolves have been linked with is Andre Luiz, with the Brazilian currently at Olympiacos. Things haven’t really gone to plan for the 24-year-old since he joined from Rio Ave in January, but the talent is there, and a fresh start could be what he needs.

Luiz was excellent in Portugal, with the previous campaign a real breakthrough one for the player, as he scored seven goals and registered five assists in 19 games, which prompted the move to Olympiacos.

One of those goals came against Gil Vicente, who were managed by Peixoto, so he will be well aware of Luiz’s talent, and whilst he may command a decent fee, he could be ideally suited to this new-look Wolves team.

Sam Johnstone leaves

The keeper joined Wolves in the summer of 2024, but it hasn’t worked out for Johnstone or the club since.

On the whole, the ex-England international has been backup to Jose Sa, and in the time he was given a run in the team, he didn’t exactly impress, and the number of games he wasn’t involved in last season left many fans questioning his commitment.

So, an exit would suit all parties, and, in an ideal world, the sooner, the better. At 33, Johnstone may have to accept a role as number two, but that’s something he may be open to instead of sitting on the bench in the Championship.

From Wolves’ perspective, getting his wages off the books would be a help, as Johnstone is unlikely to force his way into Peixoto’s plans, as you would expect the club to target a new stopper if Sa departs, which is also a possibility.

Tolu Arokodare leaves

The big striker endured a tough first year in England, and with Raul Jimenez having joined Wolves, combined with the Nigerian not initially joining Peixoto’s squad on their pre-season trip to Portugal, it appears the writing is on the wall.

Genoa are the latest club to be linked with Arokodare, with Fiorentina and Trabzonspor also admirers, and, again, a quick exit would suit all parties.

Realistically, Wolves aren’t going to get their money back, or anywhere near the £20m they paid for Arokodare, but they still need to move him on, to free up space in the squad, as well as reducing the wage bill.
